Laboratories are not very dangerous I guess. Well, you can walk around in white suit and be fine. There are ways to escape the trouble or to deal with it another way, like fighting fire with certain devices. Sometimes things may get really horrible with deadly viruses, experimental weapons, monsters from another dimension or maybe just some crazy people using developments as they wish, and whole bunch of 911 workers will be useless. Transferring personality into some new-built body with some serious cellular improvements won't cause that much problems, but it is too late to stop it, no one alive around to help and you can only hope that scientists had some way to oppose any trouble in the lab.
